Create a mood board for your interior design project

If you’ve never tried creating a mood board, it’s really simple and a brilliant way to collect a whole host of images, fabrics, textures, colour swatches and items that you love and want to incorporate into your interior design.

There are a few ways you can create a mood board, some people prefer a scrapbook but my personal favorite is to get a cork pin board and cover it in a white paper, a blank canvas and as I collect things I pin them on there until it’s complete. A mini room on a board and it looks beautiful.

If you’re a bit more digitally minded you could try Pinterest to create boards about anything, interiors design, recipes, health, fashion. It’s quite addictive but I prefer a tangible board so I can include textures that inspire me too.

When I create mine for home I choose one or two items that I completely love and work the rest around them. That’s right, I base the whole room around one or two objects I love. It may be a cushion, candlestick, throw or ornament and I simply photograph it, study it and add it to the center of my board. Surrounding this I work outwards until the board is filled with complimenting colours, items, ideas and samples. You’re now ready to undertake a seamless interior design project with everything you need on one board! No more questions over ‘will that complement this?’, or ‘will this look out of place with that?’, it’s all on your board.

I usually get my inspirational pieces from the sales. It can be so satisfying knowing that your favorite item in the room was a bargain! The Something Different sale has a whole host of inspirational pieces for you to explore. Why not see if you can find your most loved item to inspire your next room design? The Something Different Sale is now on, with up to 50% off. See a few of our favorites from the winter collection and pop in to discover for yourself.
