Silvi’s top picks for wedding presents!

It’s that magical time of the year…

…the song of the cuckoo has heralded summer is nearly here, gardens are overflowing with blossom and wedding bells are about to chime. But what to give that special couple?

So, here are my ‘top five’ wedding gifts – something to suit all budgets and that really show you’ve put thought into your present.

Hand-embroidered dowry cushions

My absolutely favourite is these vintage Dowry cushions from the Swat valley in Pakistan where the tradition is for young maidens to hand embroider dowry cushions to adorn their new marital home. The colourful cushions are intricately embroidered in silk or cotton featuring their tribal designs and become heirlooms for future generations. You can’t go wrong with these – they’re unique and eye-catching and will definitely brighten up any settee or bedroom, whether the look is minimalist or more eclectic.

On-trend tableware

Another great option is an easy to look after, original block-print tablecloth – for the couple that love having dinner parties or entertaining ‘al fresco’. Nazca is an on-trend colourful abstract design with matching napkins or placemats. It looks fab set with our wooden candle holders and striped dinner candles.

A bowl-full of good luck!

In certain circles monkeys are thought to be symbols of joy and good luck. So, for those with a sense of humour and an eclectic taste, our original hand painted monkey bowls can’t be beat. They’re exclusive to Something Different – hand-painted and every one absolutely unique as a result. They’re both quirky and practical; great for holding keys, loose change or sweets.

Elegant bronze figurines

As an avid traveller I just love these graceful and elegant tribal bronze figurines from Burkina Faso, which I just know will be much admired. Each piece is an original – made using the ancient lost wax method – and would look stunning on any bookshelf or mantelpiece.
