Music, Art and Drama – and all in Midhurst – what’s not to like?

It’s MADhurst time again in Midhurst so the town is getting ready to celebrate the impressive musical, artistic and dramatic talent that we have here, right on our doorstep! The festival’s started already and runs until Bank Holiday Monday (August 31st) when there’s a fantastic carnival parade through town. (Find out more details on the MADhurst website)

Not wanting to be left out, Something Different is having our own MADhurst celebration, showcasing the works of local artist Kylie Stewart alongside some fantastic pieces from further afield. Kylie’s lovingly hand-turned wooden pens make for very individual gifts while her intricate, hand-dyed eggs are a contemporary take on traditional Pysanky eggs and look great on display. Pick a favourite and then agonise over whether to keep it for yourself or give it to a friend as a gift!

The artistic inspiration doesn’t stop there as we have hand-embroidered tapestries, throws and even monkeys, all of which can be enjoyed whether or not you know your buttonhole or blanket stitch from a satin stitch! There are also handmade bronzes from Mali, each individually crafted in clay moulds which are broken after the casting ensuring no two are ever the same. Finally, we have hand-painted monkey bowls that are exclusive to Something Different.

We also have glass galore…. Renowned glass sculptress Rena Holford crafts beautiful equine figures in kiln-formed glass using a variety of techniques to add colour and texture and hand-blown glassware from one of Britain’s most highly-recognised glassmakers, Bob Crooks. Bob is justly renowned for the high quality, skilfully-executed dynamic forms and surfaces he has been producing over the last twelve years, any of which look fantastic in the home!
